With glorious sunshine and barely any wind on Saturday 21st July hosted at the Supermarine club ground the DWAA junior rep Michelle Orme organised a friendly 3-way county challenge between the Junior teams of the Oxfordshire Archery Association, Hampshire Archery Association and Dorset & Wiltshire Archery Association as part of the DWAA WA 1440 that weekend.
The match was open to any juniors shooting the appropriate Metric round for their age group. The top four scoring recurve, barebow or longbow archers were included in the final scores. All juniors taking part received a badge that was designed by junior archer Jonathan Horspole. Also, any Juniors who got the pre-requisite record status score also received English Archery Federation English Cross badges.
This was well attended and great fun was had by all with some fantastic shooting from the junior teams with Oxfordshire coming first with 4235 then Hampshire just 100 points behind followed by Dorset & Wilts with 3989.
Well done to all Junior team members managed by Marc Tamlyn for Oxfordshire who are a brand new county junior development squad after an absence of several decades, Nick Loader for Hampshire and Michelle for Dorset & Wilts.
Many thanks to the Tournament Judges Nick Nicholson and Paul Burden who were helpful as always in keeping everything on track and Tournament Organisers Michelle Orme along with Jane Prior. A massive thank you also to all those within Supermarine Bowmen who helped organise and facilitate the event including runners, the field, scoring and refreshment crew who worked tirelessly all weekend.
